The Personas of Design

My personal philosophy to tackle the question "What is design?"

The answer arose during a creative endeavor to unravel the love people have for British pub culture throughout history. Through research and making, I went about creating packaging and signage, using traditional methods, to best understand this novel experience of a late 1700s beer label, Charrington's.

My findings and insights are documented in a case study book called Cheers!: A Lost Beer Brand, A Gathering Place For All & Its Unexpected Community.

Tools Used:

Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign & Figma

Newsprint, Glass, Plexiglass, Gold Leaf & Paint

The inspiring making process

I allowed the space during the making of the bottles to slow down and observe my thought process and decision factors. This allowed me to value and really put into words how I approach design briefs. From research to material testing to designing and printing, and lastly to assembly. It allowed me to see what areas I thrived in and were passionate about. Those tasks primarily being research and assembly.

This allowed me to see how I view design and I was able to personify the aspects that I value in my overall approach.

I detailed my reflexive thoughts as well as the holistic process in a case study that I have titled, Cheers!: A Lost Beer Brand, A Gathering Place For All & Its Unexpected Community.

With the different personas of my design philosophy, I created an icon system that paired with each persona. Throughout the publication, you will see the icons appear in the margins to showcase when that persona was in use during my process.
